We are located 38 km West of the town of Hinton up Highway 40 North to Grande Cache.  It is a 30 minute drive from Hinton.

Once you cross the Athabasca River you will turn left at the top of the hill onto the Brule Road. Follow this road until you come to Range Road 272, turn left and follow the signs to Horseback Adventures.

For all of our hourly rides we ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time. This will allow sufficient time to sign your waivers in the office, meet your guide, go over riding instructions and be ready to go at your scheduled time. For our West Range Cabin and Wilderness Trips we ask everyone to arrive at 9 am the morning of departure.

All guests are required to sign a waiver of indemnity before riding. This must be signed before a employee of Horseback Adventures Ltd.

All of our rides primarily travel at a walk. This is due to the terrain and footing that you will be riding in as well as the safety of the riders and horses. You may have the occasional trot but that is all. Insurance restricts us from doing anything more.

Guests are welcome to wear a helmet if they have one. We do not provide them as they need to be fitted to each individual.

No, we ask that you leave your dog at home. This is for their safety and the safety of the horses and other guests.

No, we do not accept walk ins. For hourly rides, we ask that you contact us about availability at least 24 hours prior to when you would like to ride.

For all other rides we require you to book in advance a minimum of no less than 4 days before departure date upon availability.

The minimum age for all of our rides is six years old. We do not allow more than 1 person on a horse, so children must ride their own horse. If necessary, we can lead your child until they are comfortable to ride on their own.

No previous horseback riding experience is necessary! However,  good physical condition is an asset for riding. After all you are riding in the mountains and will encounter, trees, roots, rocks, and creek crossings. There is some walking required on the steeper sections of some of our day rides.

We have a strict weight restrictions of 225 pounds on all rides. Exceptions can be made if you are in very good physical condition. Contact us to discuss.

Please be honest when filling out our forms for riding, this is for your safety as well as the safety of our horses and other guests.

For hourly rides please wear comfortable pants, a boot with a low heel, water bottle, camera, hat for sun or rain, raincoat and rain pants (no ponchos), no backpacks or fanny packs.

For all West Range Cabin Trips, everything needed will be provided except the following personal items that you will need to bring, see our suggested list below:

• Rain Gear (Jacket & Pants) No Ponchos
• Rubber boots or waterproof shoe with a heal for riding, no running shoes
• Water Bottle
• Camera
• Personal Toiletries, towel, face wipes
• Warm and Spare Clothes (incl. thermals)
• Gloves
• Hat & Sunglasses
• Phone and Camera Charger
• Flashlight
• Comfortable shoes for in camp

It is essential that our guests be prepared for all kinds of mountain weather. We have had many years of experience dealing with Mother Nature, so please take our list to heart.

Be prepared for all four seasons, which can happen all in one day! Clothing that is easily layered is best – you can always remove clothing if necessary, but you can’t put it on if you do not have it. Also, bring your most comfortable gear – this is not the time to break in new boots, shoes, pants or a new hat. We suggest a change of clothing for every other day as a guideline when packing for your trip. 

Absolutely no back packs will permitted while riding. 

You are welcome to bring alcohol, but please keep in mind it will be packed in on a horse. We suggest putting it in plastic containers if possible.

Yes, bedding is provided on our West Range Cabin trips. However, a sleeping bag (rated between -10 to -20) and a thin mattress are required for the Wilderness Adventure trips.

To book on any of our hourly rides we require the following information – your name, phone number,  number of people in your party, age, riding experience, height & weight, medical conditions.  This allows us to match each rider with the perfect horse. Please be sure to fill out all questions on the form to your best ability.

For our West Range Cabin and Wilderness trips we also require dietary and allergy information

We accept Visa, Master Card, E-transfer from a Canadian bank, and cash.

International wire transfers can be arranged, contact us for information. If emailed, all Credit Card and personal information are submitted through a secure site and is only accessible by our office.

Please note that if paying by credit card there will a 3% surcharge added.

When packing your gear please keep in mind it is being packed in and out on horseback and the comfort of our horses is very important to us. By following the guidelines you can help us ensure that.

You must pack your gear in a soft-sided, cloth or nylon bag. It cannot have any hard edges, wheels or frames. Your gear is restricted to a total maximum weight of 25 lbs (sleeping bag, pad and your duffel). It is a good idea to line your duffel bag with a garbage bag for waterproofing.

You may pack your sleeping bag and mattress separate from your other gear. Your coat, rain gear, hat and gloves are to be left out of your duffel to have with you for your ride. Saddle bags are provided on the horse for these. These items are not included in the 25lb weight restriction. We reserve the right to limit the amount of weight in the saddle bags.

Fanny packs (a small pack that ties around the waist) are allowed. We ask that you do not bring day packs, backpacks or other packs as they are hard on your back and hard on the horses backs.

When making a reservation, please call our office, email us or go to our website to check availability and make a reservation.

Please note that your reservation is not considered confirmed until your deposit has been received by our office and the booking form  has been received by our office.

When going to the booking page, you have the option to pay the 50% deposit only or paying in full upon your submission. Please make sure to select the one you wish to do. All questions on the form must be filled out before submitting.

Indemnities

We strongly recommend our guests purchase travel, health, and cancellation insurance. Each rider is required to sign a waiver releasing Horseback Adventures Ltd. from all risks

Gratuities

A gratuity is customary and very much appreciated.

Due to the expense and staff involved in our trips, we require a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total cost per person to confirm your space on any of our rides.

Cancellation of your ride will result in the forfeiture of your entire deposit. Please note that our cancellation policies are non-negotiable.  

For this reason we strongly recommend purchasing Trip Cancellation Insurance. No refund will be given on trips already in progress.

Due to the expense and staff involved in our trips, our 50% deposit required upon booking to confirm your space on our rides is non-refundable. Our Cancellation policies are non-negotiable.

If we receive written notice in our office 3 weeks prior to trip departure, any monies paid over and above the 50% deposit will be refunded. If written or verbal notice is given any time after the 3 week period, it will mean forfeiture of all monies. This is non-negotiable.

We strongly recommend purchasing Cancellation Insurance, Health and Travel Insurance.

No refund will be given on trips already in progress.
